Forex Trading Bot on MT5, Build, Test and Run Without Coding

A forex trading bot can follow your plan across sessions, place every trade with a stop-loss, and stop for the day when your loss limit is reached. The challenge is building one without learning to code and without trusting a black box. This guide shows how an MT5 trading bot works with CT Products, gives example rules in plain words, and lists the risk settings that matter most in forex.

What a forex trading bot does

Forex trades almost 24 hours on weekdays, moving between the Asian, London and New York sessions. A forex trading bot watches the pairs you choose and acts only when your rules are met. It does not get tired, does not chase moves, and does not "forget" to set a stop-loss.

There are two broad ways to automate forex:

  • Expert Advisors (EAs) run inside the MetaTrader terminal. They are compiled programs, often bought ready-made, and many are black boxes where you cannot see the logic.
  • Rule-based bots outside the terminal connect to your MetaTrader account and place orders from clear rules you can read.

CT Products takes the second approach. You write your strategy in plain words, and the AI agent turns it into rule cards you can read and edit.

How the MT5 trading bot connects

CT Products supports Exness through MetaTrader 5 for forex, gold, indices and crypto CFDs, and Pepperstone through MetaTrader 4. The MT5 trading bot setup works like this:

  1. Connect your Exness MT5 account in the app. Your money stays in your broker account.
  2. Choose live or paper mode. Start on paper (practice).
  3. Write your strategy on the story board: pairs, timeframe, entry, exit, stop-loss and target.
  4. Review the rule cards the AI agent creates.
  5. Backtest on the broker's past prices with its own fees and slippage.
  6. Set risk limits, including Exness leverage, and run on paper.

On Exness MT5, every order is sent together with its stop-loss, so the stop is held at the broker from the first moment. See the Exness trading bot page for connection details.

Example forex strategy rules in plain words

These examples show the level of detail a bot needs. They are for learning, not advice.

London breakout on EUR/USD

"On the 15-minute chart, mark the high and low of the Asian session. During the London session, buy if price closes above the Asian high, sell if it closes below the Asian low. Stop-loss on the other side of the range or 1.5 ATR, whichever is closer. Target 1.5 times the risk. No new trades after the London session ends."

Trend pullback on GBP/USD

"On the 1-hour chart, trade only in the direction of the 200 SMA. In an uptrend, buy when RSI dips below 40 and then closes back above 40. Stop-loss below the last swing low. Take profit at 2 times the risk."

Range trading with Bollinger Bands

"On the 30-minute chart for a quiet pair, sell when price closes above the upper Bollinger Band and RSI is above 70, buy at the lower band with RSI below 30. Exit at the middle band. Stop-loss 1 ATR beyond the band."

Rules can use 16 indicators, including SMA, EMA, RSI, ATR, VWAP, Bollinger Bands and daily standard-deviation levels. They are checked in code at every candle close, with no AI call per candle. For ideas on timeframes, see EMA crossover bot and the best timeframe.

Testing an MT5 trading bot properly

Backtests run on your broker's own past prices with its own fees and slippage, which matters in forex where spreads affect short-term strategies a lot. Review:

  • Trades: enough of them to mean something.
  • Win rate and profit factor: together, not alone.
  • Drawdown: the deepest fall you would have experienced.

"Improve with backtest" can suggest up to 3 better versions, each tested on a learning period and on unseen prices. You apply the best one with one click and the old rules are kept, so you can always go back.

After the backtest, run the bot on paper. Forex behaves differently around news and session changes, and paper trading lets you see that without risk.

Forex risk settings that matter most

Leverage makes forex risk easy to underestimate. Set limits per broker, in money:

Setting Why it matters in forex
Risk per trade Keeps each loss small whatever the lot size
Largest position Stops oversized lots
Daily loss limit Stops the bot on bad days, such as news spikes
Open trades Limits exposure to correlated pairs
Trades per day Prevents over-trading in choppy sessions
Stop-loss distance Keeps stops realistic for the pair's volatility
Exness leverage Caps leverage on MT5

A hard cap means no single trade can risk more than 5% of the account. A kill switch closes all trades at once. A tip for forex: pairs like EUR/USD and GBP/USD often move together, so limit open trades to avoid doubling the same bet. Read more about risk management and stop-loss rules.

Monitoring your forex trading bot

Once running, you can:

  • Use Will it trade? to see why a strategy would or would not trade right now.
  • Get a trade alarm when a trade opens.
  • Watch the live trade chart with entry, stop-loss, take-profit and the money at stake at each level.
  • Check trade history with the reason for every entry and exit, and export it to Excel or PDF.
  • Let self-healing (Pro and above) pause and retrain a strategy after a losing streak or drawdown.

The app runs in a browser on phone, tablet or computer, with no install. See every tool on our features page. You can also run several brokers and strategies at once, depending on your plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is an MT5 trading bot the same as an Expert Advisor?

Not exactly. An EA is a compiled program running inside the MetaTrader terminal, while CT Products connects to your MT5 account and trades from rule cards you can read and edit.

Do I need to know MQL5 to build a forex trading bot?

No. You describe your strategy in plain words and the AI agent turns it into exact rules, so no MQL5 coding is required.

Which forex brokers does CT Products support?

It supports Exness through MetaTrader 5 and Pepperstone through MetaTrader 4, along with Binance and Interactive Brokers for other markets.

Can a forex bot protect me from news spikes?

No tool can remove that risk completely. A stop-loss held at the broker, a daily loss limit and sensible leverage help limit the damage, but gaps and slippage can still happen.

Trading involves risk, including the loss of your capital. Nothing in this article is financial advice.
